‘The Bachelor’ Finale Recap: And the final rose goes to….

by Kristeena

Well rose lovers we have come to our final ‘Bachelor’ episode recap for the season. I have to say I am excited to have a little break before Rachel’s ‘Bachelorette’ season..I do enjoy writing these posts but out of everything I do these take the most time by a long shot! Let’s dive in….

We open with Nick’s family arriving in Finland and his mom is already getting emotional and she hasn’t even met up with Nick yet. Is it just me or does she always look like she is about to cry? Clearly that is where Nick gets his constant crying from. Raven is first and since she has already met the family her visit is short & sweet. She confirms to Nick’s little sister Bella, Nick’s dad, and Nick’s mom that she is indeed in love with Nick and everyone approves. Pretty boring start to this episode. Next up Vanessa meets the family, tells them a little about herself, tells his mom that she loves him but can’t 100% she herself being engaged (just want his mom wants to hear I am sure, way to make her almost cry V), tells his sister that she would be the first of her family to leave Montreal (this isn’t looking good for their future), and cries with Nick’s dad. Nick’s dad seems worried that Vanessa is very much Nick’s type and that hasn’t worked out for him in the past.

Onto the last one-on-one dates of the season, up first Vanessa.

Can I first just say how freaking beautiful this whole scene was. The horse riding through this picturesque landscape is just so amazing. I want to go like now! Their horse ride leads them to a cottage, they knock on the door and who should appear?? SANTA! I love myself some Santa but this is just so silly. He asks what is on their wish list and of course they say love & happiness, he gives them a bad wood carving with what I am assuming is their names in Finnish with a symbol for happiness and one for fertility. From there they sit around the fire and once again Vanessa talks about how she is concerned about how at the end of this if she wins it is just because their relationship is a little bit better than the others. She says in her confessional that something doesn’t feel right in her gut and in the past when she ignored her gut she ended up in bad situations. During the night portion of their date they talked MORE about how worried Vanessa is and how she wants reassurance from Nick that he can’t give her right now. She is way too much in her own head. I understand having concerns but you are also not enjoying the time you have together by always bringing up the same thing. Maybe if she has seen an episode of the past seasons she would understand better how this all goes but if she had she may have never signed up for the experience. Their date ends with more questions that answers.

Next up the last one-on-one with Raven.

Start with some ice skating which fits with the character of Raven: young, carefree, fun, and innocent. From there Raven gets probably the best thing on any date in the history of this show….PUPPIES!! There is nothing better than puppies, seriously. I would want to take them all home with me. During the night portion of their date Raven says to Nick, “Without giving me too many details I want to know how you are doing,” which is the polar opposite of Vanessa who needs to know all the details and get reassurance. Raven is the one who is reassuring Nick when it really should be the other way around. This is just another reason why I know Nick will pick Vanessa. He has said that he likes a girl who challenges him and that is 100% Vanessa. The difference between the two dates from an outside perspective is that Nick & Raven have a fun, sweet relationship while Nick & Vanessa have a intense, adult relationship. Based on their interactions I know he will pick Vanessa but I now think he probably should pick Raven.

The next day Nick gets a visit from Neil Lane to pick out the perfect engagement ring for his lady. I have to say Neil Lane makes beautiful rings, I am surprised more couples don’t stay together for the required two years so they can keep the ring. Just joking, well sort of.

It is now the moment we have all been waiting for…who will be the first woman out of the car and ultimately get heart broken…sweet Raven. I always feel bad when they walk up all smiley and happy, they hear all the things that person loves about them and then the hear that dreaded word BUT and their face falls. Raven takes it with grace and tells Nick “I will never regret standing here telling you how I feel.” See you in Paradise Raven!

Proposal time!!!

Nick (through tears): “I will never forget the first moment I saw you. I was very excited you got out of that limo but I’ll never forget the first moment I started falling in love with you. It was actually just the second rose ceremony. Just being next to you I felt something very special and every moment since then I’ve been falling more and more in love with you. There have been plenty of times when I have tried to fight it and I don’t want to fight it anymore because I do love you, I’m in love with you. I’m glad I don’t have to try and not say it. So much about you being here has to do with the past but when I look at you all I see is my future.”

Vanessa (through tears): “I remember my first night walking out of the limo and seeing you for the first time. I knew there was something special and different about you and I thought there is no way he is going to notice me. Instead you’ve noticed every part of me. Nick when I am with you I am the happiest I have ever been. I knew this kind of love existed, I just never thought it was going to happen for me until I met you. So thank you for taking another chance on love. I know things are not going to be easy. I know I can get emotional and a little crazy and I can overthink things when things get hard but I promise to remind you every day how happy you make me and knowing how much you love to talk I promise I am ready to do a lot of listening.”

Nick (on one knee): “Vanessa Grimaldi, Will you marry me?”

I thought the proposal was very sweet & genuine however keep reading to see how watching “After the Final Rose” has me saying I will give them six months. Sad to say but unfortunately that is the reality of 90% of the Bachelor relationships.

After the Final Rose Highlights:

  • Chris Harrison said at the beginning of the episode that we will have the most shocking news ever in the history of the Bachelor…more on that later.
  • When Nick comes out he seems very somber and not like someone who is blissfully in love.
  • Raven is off to Paradise this summer.
  • Vanessa comes out and keeps going on and on about how hard it has been with the long distance, social media opinions, what sounds like some fighting, etc.
  • Vanessa is planning to move to the United States and that wasn’t really a hard thing to compromise on.
  • She is also supportive of Nick being on “Dancing with the Stars.”
  • When they are interacting on the couch they seem very awkward and like they are just playing the role. It is not looking good.
  • About that big announcement…they are starting the Bachelorette tonight and Rachel is meeting 4 of her suitors. This was so stupid. The poor guys had to come introduce themselves to Rachel with a whole audience of strangers watching them. It was painful to watch. Boo producers boo!

My final prediction:
Nick & Vanessa will last 6 months. They will post pictures & videos on Insta (Nick Viall, Vanessa Grimaldi) and Snapchat (Nick-nickviall & Vanessa-vanessagrimaldi) showing that they are in love. She will cheer him on at a couple “Dancing with the Stars” episodes because she is probably contractually obligated to. In 6 months they will release a statement about how much love and respect they have for each other but they have decided to end their relationship. I want to be optimistic but these two just have doom written all over them.

Until ‘The Bachelorette’ my friends, I’m out!
